Important Information Regarding USTA Tournaments

As many of our younger players progress to tournaments, it is important to understand how the age divisions work. If your child is in the 10 & under division he/she will play with a lower compression ball and a 60 ft court. This is called Quick Start Tennis and a new rule has recently been passed requiring all 10 & under events to use this format. We here at VYT have not quite yet adopted this format due to our lack of courts and large number of children, however we are looking into it. You have the option of your child trying it anyway or advancing up to the 12 & under division level 7. This is the entry level tournament and competition could be quite good, albeit not as good as a level 6 could be.

Please feel free to discuss with the pros what your child should be participating in.  Also, if you are unfamiliar with the USTA Website and unsure how to register for tournaments, once again see a pro.

 Videotape Archive

We currently have many of our Team, Future Stars and High School players on our video archive. If you are in one of those groups and have not been video taped, please let us know and we will try and arrange it.  However, you do not have to be in one of those groups to check yourself out. From this point forward, we will be videotaping the children in the above groups at regular intervals to record their progress.

Parents Advisory Committee

The Parents Advisory Committee was established in April to facilitate communication between VYT staff and parents of children who participate in the program.  Constructive ideas and any feedback are welcome by contacting the committee chairman.  Please do not submit anonymous suggestions or comments; they have little or no credibility.  The committee consists of the following people.

Melissa Hackney

Lorne Lewis

Barbara Leonard
